Weather in Nicaragua
The weather in Nicaragua is nothing short of AMAZING all year long. Nicaragua really is the perfect place for a yoga and surf vacation. The temperatures hover between 75º to 85º fahrenheit 12 months a year. You do have to remember that is the tropics, so it does rain at times. Even at that, it's warm tropical rain that usually occurs in the afternoons/night time. Most of the time you'll be pleased by the afternoon showers. These afternoon rains have a tendency to cool things down a bit, and sometime even put on amazing lighting displays.
    Nicaragua Weather
    January through February
The forecast calls for lots of surfing and yoga! With no rain for the past two months the climate begins to transform the environment. Many trees lose their leaves some of which blossom revealing beautiful flowers. A good deal of foliage will vanish exposing the terrain and making it much easier to spot wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled and you may see a myriad of different animals from foxes to bunnies, skunks, raccoons, and of course monkeys! Don’t forget about bird watching!! With the trees exposed you’re likely to catch a glimpse of a wide assortment of birds some native and others migrating. Last but definitely not least this is the time of year to see the great migration of the humpbacks as they head to the equator to breed.

Day to day you can expect beautiful weather with strong offshore winds keeping it cool, dry and bug free! This a great time of year for hiking and exploring volcanoes with temperatures being not too hot and the trails being solid. ( As opposed to muddy) Again, if you are interested in surfing during these two months you will want to have a “shorty” wetsuit or at the very least a rash guard. The strong wind will make the water seem much colder than it really is!
    Perfect Weather Nicaragua
    March through April
Still no rain and after a couple months of strong wind we are looking at some dry terrain. This time of year the country appears to be more of a desert rather than a jungle and you begin to see why these stunning tree sized cacti exist here. Although very different this time of year it is still beautiful with tons to offer. Great hiking, bird watching, and still the occasional humpback spotting through March. As for surfing, winds let up and the water temperature warms so wetsuits are no longer necessary except for maybe the first bit in March. Surf season is about to kick off with some larger consistent swells rolling in by May so this is the last window for gentle beginner waves.

Day to day you can expect some more beautiful weather with gentle breezes through March. April will get a bit warmer as we move into the climax of Nicaraguan Summer so air conditioning and swimming pools will be greatly appreciated. Fruit season kicks off in March so be ready to eat some of the best watermelon, papaya, mango, pineapple, and citrus fruit of your life!
    Rain Season Nicaragua
    May through June
Ahhhh, rain!!! May marks the return of the rainy season and everyone is ready by now! The wet season takes off slow with a sprinkle here and there in May, and it is remarkable to see how much change takes place with just a tiny bit of water. The jungle takes back it’s territory in no time and with only a couple good showers the landscape is green, green, green. With the return of the water comes the return of humidity so be ready to sweat! Being that the wet season comes in gradually, volcano hikes are still approachable and rain hardly affects any outdoor activities. Surfers, be ready! This time of year will have consistent swell with “smaller” swells being about 6’. If you want to learn to surf this time of year you need to be ready to get tossed around a bit or simply hope your vacation lands in between swells.

Day to day you can expect beautiful sunny weather with clouds building throughout the day and occasionally a short lived afternoon shower. Don’t forget that with the rain comes the mosquitoes so make sure to use repellent! Luckily, mosquito borne illnesses are extremely rare in this part of Nicaragua although the chance does exist still in the more urban areas.
    RainySeason Nicaragua
    July through August
Depending on the year, rainy season can vary substantially. This time of year you can still count on sunshine most of the time but be prepared to get rained on, or rained in from time to time. Generally speaking the rains occur in the afternoons, or overnight. The thunder & lightning storms that occur here in the tropics can be absolutely spectacular. If you've never experienced a tropical storm in central america, you're in for a treat.

For the most part the outdoor lifestyle is unaffected by the rain these two months and can easily be planned around. Turtle lovers be prepared!! This is the beginning of nesting season and can be spotted on boat tours or on their protected nesting beach just north of the retreat.
    Heavy Rains Nicaragua
    September through October
Again, depending on the year these two months can vary. This is generally the climax of the progressive wet season and your outdoor activity is likely to be more affected by weather this time of year. Some years September and October can be super wet with full rain days, other years it can be more of the July-August forecast. Weather is never predictable even with all the technology we have these days. The best bet is to plan for a considerable amount of rain. The one thing that is for sure is mass amounts of turtles! September is the height of nesting season with thousands of turtles making it to Chococente in one single night!
    Perfect weather Nicaragua
    November through December
As far as seasons go here in Nicaragua they are polar opposite to our seasons up North. As November and December kick off our winter season this is the beginning of Nicaraguan summer. Although temperatures stay anywhere between 70-85 degrees fahrenheit throughout the entire year the climate does change drastically. November marks the beginning of Dry Season and you will see very little if any rain for the next six months. No rain means things dry out and you’ll notice this in November and December mostly in the air. Day to day during these two months you will get more than enough sunshine, gentle crisp breezes and epic sunsets.

Want to try your hand out at surfing? This is the perfect time of year to do it! Waves are smaller and more gentle this time of year making the water much more beginner friendly. Water temperatures are about 75-80 degrees and although it is super warm surfers still may need a “shorty” wetsuit towards the end of December due to the super strong offshore wind this place is so famous for.
